Celebration of International Day of Biodiversity on 22 May, 2018

 

ENVIS Resource Partner “Wildlife and Protected Areas” at Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun celebrated the International Day of Biodiversity with the youth and children of village Rampur in Varanasi district, Uttar Pradesh. The Rampur village is located on the bank of River Ganga. The group of young children and youth actively participated in cleaning of the bank of River Ganga.

Sounika Karmakar, Programme Officer, ENVIS briefed youth and children about importance of Cleanliness; effects of Plastic Pollution in our daily life; and importance of River Biodiversity. She also briefed about the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) a new initiative programme of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), New Delhi and briefed the online process of Applying this course. She also explained how joining the course would help them in enhancing their livelihood. Some of youth and children showed interest in joining the GSDP course in Sarnath. The group acknowledged that the River and the village biodiversity is their own and they will take care of it.
