World Environment Month Celebrations at Tata Motors, Pantnagar on 10 - 11 June 2017

WII-ENVIS centre on Wildlife & Protected Areas in association Tata Motors, Pantnagar celebrated World Environment Day 2017 with a focus on the theme Connecting People to Nature. Several activities were conducted on and off the campus of Tata Motors involving people of all age classes.

A birdwatching trip was organised at the Haripura dam on 10th June to create awareness on waterbirds and other associated wetland fauna/flora. Participants were trained to identify waterbirds and record the waterbirds seen on e-bird app. The birdwatching trip was attended by 25 participants and over 30 species of waterbirds were recorded.

An Environment Awareness camp was organised on 10th June at Tata Motors campus on various wildlife conservation topics. Topics such as wildlife related myths, Himalayan biodiversity and Tiger monitoring in India were dealt by researchers working in the respective fields.  Documentaries on wildlife conservation, environment degradation et. were screened with inputs from WII-ENVIS team to the camp participants. The camp was attended by over 100 people from various levels of management. WII-ENVIS WildGraphic Posters and ENVIS bulletin CDs were also distributed by the Plant Head to the employees.

A Biodiversity Assessment camp on Terai forest types and birds was organised in the nearby Tanda forest reserve on 11th June. The camp attendees were informed about various plant types and bird identification and key inputs on managing biodiversity in the backyard were also given.

Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary was also visited on 11th June along with Tata Motors officials, for assessing its potential for a future Biodiversity Awareness camp.
