International Mountain Day is observed every year on December 11th to raise awareness about the vital role that mountains play in sustaining life on Earth. The day emphasizes the importance of mountains not only as sources of biodiversity, water, and energy but also as cultural and economic hubs for millions of people around the world. It highlights the unique challenges faced by mountain communities, such as environmental degradation, climate change, and limited access to resources. The theme for this year's celebration, Mountain Solutions for a Sustainable Future – Innovation, Adaptation, and Youth, focuses on the need for creative solutions that promote sustainability in mountain regions. It stresses the significance of innovation and adaptation in addressing the growing environmental and social challenges in these areas. Additionally, it calls for the involvement of young people in driving positive change, encouraging them to contribute fresh ideas and leadership to ensure the resilience and prosperity of mountain communities in the face of a changing world. To mark the significance of International Mountain Day, the EIACP Centre at the Wildlife Institute of India organized a series of events.
