About the Wildlife Series: Elephant Reserves

The Wildlife Series on Elephant Reserves of India by Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building, and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Dehradun focuses on the conservation and management of elephant habitats across the country. This series aims to highlight the ecological significance of these reserves, the challenges they face, and the strategies employed for their protection. The series provides detailed information on the flora, fauna, avifauna, socio-economic status, and threats within the reserve, along with conservation perspectives aimed at mitigating human-elephant conflict and ensuring the long-term survival of these majestic creatures.

Included in the series are insights into the various forest types found within the reserves, the socio-economic dynamics of the local communities, and the specific threats posed by habitat loss, fragmentation, and human encroachment. The series also emphasizes the importance of effective management practices, such as the establishment of protected areas, maintenance of elephant corridors, implementation of early warning systems, and the promotion of sustainable ecotourism. By fostering cooperation between local communities and conservation efforts, the series aims to create a harmonious coexistence between humans and elephants, ensuring the protection of these vital ecosystems for future generations.
