to engage Research Fellows
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage 04 research fellows viz., 01-Senior Research Fellow, 02-Junior Research Fellows and 01-Project Biologist (Indian national only) through a walk-in-interview on Monday, 18th March 2013. The details of the available positions along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below:
Project Title, details of position and duration
Long term monitoring of tigers, co-predators & prey species in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and adjoining landscapes, Maharashtra, India.
 (01 –SRF, 02 JRF)
Duration: 05 Years
Essential Qualification
SRF: Masters’ Degree in Zoology/Life Science/Botany/Forestry/Environmental Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University with minimum of two year’s research experience in the relevant field.
JRF: Masters’ Degree in Zoology/Life Science/Botany/Forestry/Environmental Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
  • Demonstrate a liking and passion for wildlife research and conservation.
  • Experienced in basic wildlife field techniques (study design, sign surveys, line transects, vegetation sampling, camera trapping, occupancy etc.)
  • Conversant with data analysis, ecological & statistical software (abundance estimation, mark recapture, DISTANCE, MARK, PRESENCE)
  • Demonstrate ability to work in the field under harsh conditions.
Description of Work
Studying tigers and co-predators through radio telemetry; tigers and co-predators population estimation and monitoring; prey population estimation and monitoring; habitat use estimation; predation and human-animal conflict evaluation. The researchers are required to conduct field work to collect relevant data to address the varied aspects of the study.

Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science/Environment Management/ Ecology/ Forestry/Zoology with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Research experience in radio-telemetry, vegetation quantification and animal census techniques.
Description of Work
The project aims to monitor re-introduced tigers in Sariska Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan.
1.     Age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years for the advertised position of JRF and 32 years for SRF and Project Biologist as on Friday, 15th March 2013. Upper age limit for SRF/JRF/Project Biologist may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates  belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.
2.      The fellowship amount for the selected Senior Research Fellow is Rs. 14,000/- consolidated per month and Rs. 18,000/- in case of NET qualified candidate(s) for Research Fellows (UGC/CSIR).
3.      The fellowship amount for the selected Project Biologist is Rs. 16,000/- consolidated per month.
4.      Selected candidate(s) for the advertised position of JRF will be paid a consolidated emolument of Rs. 12,000/- per month as fellowship. In case of NET qualified candidates (UGC/CSIR) for Research Fellows, the selected JRF will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 16,000/- per month.
5.      Selected candidate(s) will be engaged initially for a period mentioned against each advertised position. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended depending upon the exigencies of work at sole discretion of the Institute and satisfactory performance of the candidate.
6.      Candidate(s) may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.
7.      The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held onMonday, 18th March 2013 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. The registration will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards.
8.      Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
9.      Candidate(s) should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.
10. One way travel expenses will be paid to the candidate, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.
11. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
